A strong woman among the machines
Among all the men in the Tubtara® production department, you’ll find Ashley. She started her journey in the Tubtara® factory back in May through a temporary contract, and she already feels completely at home. Her interim period is now over, and she has secured a permanent position.
“Before coming here, I already had a few years of experience as a machine operator. But beyond that, I’ve always had a strong interest in the world of machinery. That helps me pick things up quickly, and after just two months, I feel totally at ease here.”
“Being a woman in this field is indeed quite unique. But personally, I don’t see it as an issue. In my previous jobs – which were quite similar – I rarely, if ever, came across other women. Since that’s always been the norm for me, I’ve found it easy to find my place here. The team has welcomed me with open arms, and I’m definitely holding my own.”
Dejond Fastening waves goodbye to Paul Swaans
After more than 35 years of experience in the fastener business – almost 9 years of which at Dejond Fastening – sales engineer Paul Swaans is going into well-deserved retirement. He will say goodbye to his customers and colleagues at the end of May. Yet his career had looked almost entirely different. "I was initially not invited for a job interview", he says.
Paul Swaans began his career at a company that also specialized in fasteners. There he was employed for more than 25 years. "I really worked myself up there from order picker to shop manager”, Paul says. "But after some changes in the company, I decided to look for another job."
Spotted in our Tubtara® department
Meet Furkan Selek, machine operator and quality inspector. We actually first got to know him back in 2021, when he joined our company as a student worker. And as fate would have it, he recently came across a job opening and decided to take his shot.
“During my application process, I was given the opportunity to participate in a trial week, rotating across the shop floor and working with various machines. It was a unique and educational experience, and it gave me a real sense of what it's like to work here. You can probably guess the rest… I’ve found my place here. I’m now a proud member of the team and I see many opportunities ahead to continue growing and developing myself.”
Hard workers
They say “many hands make light work.” But what do you do when there’s a lot of work, and only a few hands to get it done? For Kian and Michael from the warehouse, the answer was simple: get as much done as possible with the four hands they had.
And it paid off. In just eight working days, they processed nearly as many orders as would usually be handled in 18 to 20 days with a full team. Despite the understaffing, both men kept giving it their all. The Aftersales team regularly offered to help, but each time they replied that they had things under control.
Not once did stress take over. Michael did mention some back pain – completely understandable considering the volume of orders handled in just one week. Of course, this kind of pace isn’t sustainable for weeks on end, but they proved they’re a highly efficient and dedicated team. Thankfully, the absent colleagues are now back on duty.
A colleague's testimonial
"Problem-solving thinking in design & production" – a major advantage for our customers according to Lukas Versteele. In December 2024, he joined Dejond Fastening as the new production manager within the Tubtara® division.
What experience do you bring? "As a civil engineer-architect, I previously worked in aluminum production and in my own production-focused consultancy firm. I am familiar with the challenges of a modern manufacturing company. I am used to optimizing processes and products while considering aesthetics, cost, manufacturability, and other factors."
Why did you choose Dejond Fastening as your new employer? "Metal production suits me, and here I can combine the technical aspect with problem-solving thinking within a human-centered context. I appreciate that I have the opportunity to thoroughly get to know the company through different phases, so we can make more well-considered decisions in certain processes and further enhance the quality of our products."
How do you see the future? "I aim to help translate Dejond Fastening's vision into our production department. The question is not so much IF we can make something, but HOW we can make it so that customers receive exactly what they need. By thinking carefully from the design phase, execution becomes more efficient for our operators. Making everyone on the shop floor even prouder of what we achieve together – that’s what it’s all about."
